Where Your Money Goes

The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation is able to turn every dollar donated into over two dollars of medical care. 400,000 children are born each year in the US alone with a vascular birthmark. 30% of these children need some form of treatment either by laser or surgery. The most common form of a tumor in infancy is called a hemangioma (vascular birthmark). Imagine the emotional scarring that these children will endure when they are old enough to realize that they are “different”! The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation believes that these birthmarks are not just a cosmetic issue, but are psychologically damaging and can be physiologically dangerous. We believe that no child deserves this fate when safe and effective medical treatment exists. The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation identifies children with vascular birthmarks and hemangiomas in need of specialized medical treatment. Children whose health insurance will not cover removal procedures and whose parents can not afford it are brought to Charleston, SC and are treated by Dr. Marcelo Hochman, a nationally-recognized specialist in the field who has been donating service for fifteen years. The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation is able to turn every dollar donated into over two dollars of medical care. The way we do this is through the generosity of hospitals, physicians, other organizations. At the present time, we have contractual agreements with MUSC, and Roper Saint Francis Healthcare to pay half of what surgeries would normally cost. Every surgery is different due to the severity of a child’s hemangioma. The median cost of each surgery runs around $12,500.
